Crawl Space & Wall Products

Dirt crawl spaces are common in many homes and present unique problems for the homeowner. Dirt inside the home transmits humidity, odors and radon gas. It also provides rodents and insects an easy path into the upper living portions of the home. The humidity and dampness that is inherent in crawl spaces can also cause structural damage to the wood framing, carpets, floors and walls. This environment is a breeding ground for mold and mildew, all of which present a real problem.

Innovative Solutions for Your Crawl Space

The homeowner might consider pouring concrete over the crawl space floor, but in a post construction setting this is often unrealistic and impractical.

The cost effective SOLUTION … CRAWL SPACE CONDUIT™

A Proven EPA Sealing and Encapsulation Method

The Environmental Protection Agency taught radon professions to install a barrier on the floor and up the walls of dirt crawl spaces to “encapsulate” the dirt area. Basement Technologies has done radon mitigation for years and strongly agrees with the EPA and utilizes this method of encapsulation as a cure for water, dirt and insects as well as stopping Radon Gas. The method virtually seals the crawl space from the outside.

Home airflow mechanics, called the “whole house effect”, is the natural airflow, which travels towards the roof, creating a suction type effect on the crawl space dirt. This process will cause dampness and humidity. It also provides rodents and insects an easy path into the upper living portion of the home. The Crawl Space Conduit™ will reduce humidity and possible mold growth throughout the home. It can also help dry up wood and floor structural framing. Basement Technologies has designed a solution to the dirt crawl space problem. The Crawl Space Conduit™ will reduce heating and cooling costs. Our Crawl Space Conduit™ is a concrete floor replacement when concrete is unrealistic in a post construction setting. Basement Technologies offers two (2) types of crawl space coverings. Please ask your Basement Technologies representative for samples to see which one you prefer, Crawl Space Conduit I™ or Crawl Space Conduit II™.

CRAWL SPACE CONDUIT I™

Advantages

  • made from high density resins making it far more durable than low density poly films.
  • will not crack on folds and creases as does a standard poly.
  • because it’s cross laminated and is pin-hole free while standard poly can never be pin-hole free.
  • has an outstanding resistance to snags and punctures while regular standard poly has virtually no resistance.
  • cross grained construction, like plywood, ensures a lightweight durable barrier of outstanding strength.
  • weather stabilized while standard poly shows early disintegration under varied weather conditions.
  • has an MVT rate which is 67 times more effective than the maximum FHA standards.
  • physical characteristics have been tested, documented, and certified by independent research/engineering laboratories.

Certified Facts …

  • is OVER 67 TIMES more effective than the maximum allowed by FHA Specs of 0.50 gr/100 sq. in./24 hrs.
  • is over 6.4 times more puncture resistant than 4 mil low density poly.
  • has an MVT rate almost 6 TIMES more effective than 4 mil. Low density poly.

Lifetime warranty against tears and breaks.

Crawl Space Conduit Consists of virgin outer layers of white high-strength polyethylene film laminated together
with a lack layer of molten polyethylene. Both outer layers contain UV inhibitors and thermal stabilizers to assure
long outdoor life. The white layers are designed to reduce heat build up and condensation, and to provide
excellent dimensional stability. A layer of polyester reinforcement placed between these piles greatly enhances
ear resistance and increases service life. Crawl Space Conduit’s II heavy duty diamond reinforcement responds
to tears immediately by surrounding and stopping the tear.

The Fieldstone Conduit™ ... Innovative Solutions for Your Fieldstone Walls

before
after

Homeowners may consider tearing out their fieldstone walls due to frustrations associated with water, mold, dirt, odors, pests and rodents. In older colonial homes, it was common to dig out the basement and install stone walls. Older homes offer old world charm and craftsmanship with a high market elevation. The problem in any of these homes is the basement walls. The basements are usually unsightly, wet, damp and moldy. It makes little economic sense to tear down the home and redo the foundation and floor. Fieldstone walls have joints and cracks where the mortar (concrete) was installed to join the stones. Water, air, rodents and insects can get through these cracks. Basement Technologies’ Fieldstone Conduit™ solves the problem permanently and cost effectively. Our solution seals all the problems out and effectively creates a new living space, free of insects, dirt, rodents and water. The Fieldstone Conduit™ is best used in conjunction with a full perimeter Water Trek Aqua Route® System.

The Most Cost Effective SOLUTION…Basement Technologies’ Fieldstone Conduit™

Fieldstone foundation walls usually have gaps in them. These gaps allow water, humidity, dampness, rodents and insects to enter the basement, due to the “whole house suction effect”. The natural tendency of homes create suction on the earth due to air flowing upwards on the roof.

The Fieldstone Conduit™ is best used in conjunction with a full perimeter Water Trek Aqua Route® system. We encapsulate the wall with one of three impenetrable membrane barriers that are aesthetically pleasing (ask your representative for samples). This barrier is sealed to the top of the wall around the perimeter and then tucked and sealed into our patented Water Trek Aqua Route® system creating a closed system, which prevents any humidity, insects or rodents from entering the basement. The recommended option of an Air Mop™ and/or Bon Aire™ air purifier will result in a cleaner and mold/humidity free environment, ready to be finished for storage or living space. Talk to your Basement Technologies representative about these solutions and put an end to a potentially unhealthy home. As an added bonus, the resale value of the property will increase as a result of these improvements.

Basement Technologies uses the toughest of membranes forming a protection barrier that has been used for years to stop dangerous radon gas from infiltrating homes. It is an approved EPA protocol for stopping radon gas penetration into basements. We would further install a fan and draw the gas out of the walls where gas was entering the basement. While installing this barrier, it not only seals out radon gases, but also stopped water, odors, insects and rodents from entering the basement and upstairs living area. We seal the barrier to the top of the wall with special fasteners and one-part polyurethane sealant. The barrier is then tied into our Water Trek Aqua Route® system in the floor, thus creating an air tight seal on the walls, and stopping water, insects and rodents from entering your home.
